Day Thirty One

And now for my final number...

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported my Frocktober challenge (and to all who helped me document it...the myriad of photographers...and sometimes the self timer button)
I appreciate you all and feel so happy to be a part of such a wonderful cause. Hopefully, this little project has raised a little awareness (i know it has for me) and maybe encouraged others to take on the challenge for next year.

Much love and Frock on. xoxo

Day Thirty

I'm a little bit sad that tomorrow is the last day of Frocktober (but my jeans, t-shirts and cons are rejoicing to be back in rotation again). But there is still one day left, so if you haven't donated already please dig deep (and quickly!) and give whatever you can. Frock on.

Day Twenty Nine

This little number is an Alice McCall I got last year. Me likey Alice. I think her designs are so structural and modern but manage to still be feminine and uber awesome.

Day Twenty Eight

Different city. Same red couch. Thank you Medina Hotel for providing a constant in this mutable life.

Day Twenty Seven

A little yellow butterfly landed on the lapel of my dress just as this photo was taken. This pleases me greatly...

Day Twenty Six

This Studio Mela illustration is just so damned adorable it makes me want to squeeze the breath out of tiny things: puppies, kittens, you get the gist. The irony is that I have had that problem this whole month thanks to Frocktober and my inner six year old. Kudos to you both.

Day Twenty Five

I got this dress last year at a wonderful vintage store in Auckland called Tatty's. It's a Chloe dress (from i don't know when) but i love the big black buttons and simplicity of it.
Only 6 days to go! Please donate anything you can towards Frocktober if you haven't already... x

Day Twenty Four

Another city...another opening night. I pulled out the Wheels & Doll Baby for this one. It kinda makes me look like a french maid....I'm okay with that.

Day Twenty Three

Everybody told me it would be freezing in Canberra but nobody told me to expect sunshine and warm weather. Lo and behold, here it is! I arrived here yesterday and its been nothing but clear skies and heat. I even found myself donning a swimsuit and hanging poolside. Good times.

Day Twenty Two

I bought this dress in New York at Patricia Field's store (on Bowery & E Houston). I actually bumped into the flame haired, eccentric stylist as soon as I walked in (she was filming a segment for some cable tv show). Her store was filled with seriously crazy & garish garments that bordered on stripper attire. In fact, this was the least crazy thing I could find. I liked its harajuku quality and anything that combines flannel and ruffles is pretty awesome in my book.

Day Nineteen

I am home and I couldn't be happier. So I rummaged around in my (much missed) wardrobe and found this little vintage frock which i feels pays homage to milkmaid outfits. Despite the fact i have never milked a cow or been in close proximity to a cow or don't even drink milk (I am a Bonsoy fanatic)...i am a Melburnian Milkmaid.

Day Eighteen

" ...something borrowed, something blue." Except this ain't no wedding. It's day 18 of Frocktober and i'm starting to run low on dresses (or at least the ones i hastily stuffed in my suitcase). So i've borrowed this cute little organic cotton number from my friend, Josie. It's oh so comfy and therefore perfect for a Sunday/last day of work in Sydney. I happily head home to Melbourne tomorrow!

Day Seventeen

Leona Edmiston dress + heavily discounted + only one in my size = Serendipity

Day Sixteen

I was so keen about the prospect of having a "beach day" I endured the peekaboo session the sun played with the clouds & the wind whipping grains of sand across my body. Luckily, I had this little Kinki Gerlinki number to protect me.

Day Twelve

This is me doing a little Charleston because it's my day off. So in the absence of work I have all day and night to do whatever i wish (like charleston!). So with that time I've decided to bake Madeleines.

"...squat, plump little cakes which look as though they had been moulded in the fluted valve of a scallop shell" -Remembrance of Things Past, Proust.

These cakes had the potency to spark involuntary memory in Marcel Proust's mind and mouth. I first tasted them at Cumulus Inc (having never been to or anywhere near France *sigh*). The first bite i took into the modest looking, petite morsel was unforgettable. Warm, moist, delectable, simple and amazing. I am sure my attempt will not measure up to that experience. But you can't blame me for trying. Here goes!

Day Eleven

The little white frock is a quintessential item. It is the antithesis of the little black dress (LBD).
  • LBD = cosmopolitan, sexy, slightly "breakfast at tiffany's-ish".
  • LWD = demure, virginal, slightly "little house on the prarie-ish".
If sometimes you just want plait your hair and re-enact scenes from The Sound of Music then the LWD is for you. And who can pass up an opportunity to solve a problem like Maria? Honestly.

Day Nine

I recline, therefore I am.

Day Eight

Do not be deceived by this photo. The subject of the picture is a fool & her devil may care attitude towards the weather (and more specifically, the bone chilling wind) was her downfall. She pretty much ran home after this photo was taken (Thanks Kat!). There she found comfort in drinking earl grey tea and nibbling an assortment of macaroons. The end.

mmm....macaroon.

Day Seven

I am literally jumping for joy, folks. (Although i'm now experiencing some minor back spasms as a result of said jumping. whatever. it was totally worth it). Today i broke the chains that bound me and paid off the remainder of my HECS debt. Gone is the looming reminder of my university finances (or lack thereof). Free at last.

Day Five

Self-take....self-explanatory.

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Day Four

The rain has arrived to clear the streets (and my lungs) of all that residual red dust. My days are numbered in Bondi (before i pack my bags again!) and it looks like i'm to spend it with grey clouds and raindrops. *sighs*

Day Three

I bought this dress in London during my whirlwind, one week trip there. I also bought a cravat. I thought it was charming and old worldly....and i've never worn it. (perhaps i'll try to work it into the frocktober challenge. Frockcravat day? I like it).

Day Two

Day One

Day One of Frocktober and it's 33 degrees in sunny Sydney. So i thought it apt to wear a light summer dress (a more elaborate dress would result in my spontaneous combustion). Plus, the print on the dress consists of many little owls. I have a penchant for all things owl related....And yes, i am hanging my frocks on a clothesline. A girls gotta get ready you know.

The Mission

I shall don a frock every day of the month of October in support of the festive fundraising initiative aiming to raise funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).

The latest statistics across Australia are that, "one woman dies every ten hours from ovarian cancer."

For many women with ovarian cancer, the disease is already well advanced when they are first diagnosed.

Unfortunately, there is currently no screening test for ovarian cancer. Frocktober aims to help improve the outlook for women with the disease by supporting the quest for a suitable early detection test, through fundraising for the OCRF.

Through fun – and sometimes quirky – measures, Frocktober is all about:
• increasing the public's awareness of ovarian cancer and what it is
• promoting women's health & wellbeing
• celebrating the great diversity of shapes, sizes and colours women come in.

Essentially, Frocktober puts forward a challenge to girls, women and interested men far and wide: To don a frock for a day, week, fortnight or a full month during October, and get sponsored for it! As well as frocking up, one is encouraged to create frocks, source frocks through creative measures and in essence celebrate the frock in all its feminine glory...

Now that you know what I’ll be up to during Frocktober, there are several ways to sponsor me:

• Cash: just fill out my donation form when donating your money.

• Electronic Funds Transfer: Enter my registration number :
